Data Centre & Hybrid Infrastructure

Modernise the servers, storage and virtualisation you keep on-premises, so they are simpler to run, connected to the cloud and free from unwanted lock-in.

Is this for you?

You might need this if…

Your virtualisation licensing costs have risen sharply, and you need a realistic plan for what comes next.

Servers and storage are reaching end of support, and you must decide whether to refresh, consolidate or move to the cloud.

Some workloads have to stay on-premises for latency, data-control or production reasons, but still need modern management.

You run several server rooms or data centres and suspect that fewer would do the job.

What we deliver

What it covers

Server, storage and virtualisation

We design, refresh and support the server, storage and virtualisation platforms your on-premises workloads depend on. Capacity is sized for real demand, with support and lifecycle planned ahead.

VMware exit and alternative platforms

We assess the impact of VMware licensing changes and compare alternatives such as Microsoft Hyper-V, Azure Local, Nutanix AHV, Proxmox or moving workloads to the cloud. Then we plan and run the migration of virtual machines with minimal disruption.

Hyperconverged infrastructure

We help you decide whether hyperconverged platforms fit your needs, and implement them where they do. Combining compute, storage and networking in one managed system often simplifies operations, especially at branch sites and smaller data centres.

Data centre consolidation and relocation

We plan and run the consolidation of server rooms and data centres, or moves to colocation facilities. Every move is planned in detail, with dependencies mapped and a rollback ready.

Infrastructure as code and automation

We bring cloud-style automation to your on-premises estate using tools such as Terraform and Ansible. Builds and changes become repeatable, documented and faster.

Our approach

How we work

01

Inventory

A complete picture of hosts, virtual machines, storage, licences, performance and dependencies, built from tooling and interviews.

02

Design

A placement decision for each workload and a target platform, compared on cost, risk, skills and support.

03

Transition

A pilot with representative workloads, followed by migration or relocation in planned groups with tested rollback.

04

Run

Automation, monitoring and lifecycle plans put in place, so the new platform stays current and easy to operate.

Best practices

What we bring to every engagement

Decide where each workload belongs

Systems are placed on-premises, in colocation or in the cloud based on cost, latency, data control and lifecycle — not by default.

Don’t swap one lock-in for another

When replacing a virtualisation platform, we weigh exit costs, skills and ecosystem support as carefully as licence price.

Pilot before mass migration

Representative workloads prove performance, backup and monitoring on the new platform before the bulk moves.

Manage on-premises like cloud

Infrastructure as code, central management and consistent policies make a hybrid estate operable by a small team.

Plan the whole lifecycle

Refresh cycles, support contracts and firmware updates are planned over the full life of the hardware, not just at purchase.

Count power and space

Consolidation decisions include energy use and floor space, supporting both cost and sustainability goals.

Outcomes

What you get

  • A complete inventory of servers, storage, virtualisation and dependencies
  • A placement decision for each workload: on-premises, colocation or cloud
  • A target platform design, including virtualisation alternatives
  • Virtual machines migrated to the new platform
  • Fewer sites, racks or servers to run and pay for
  • Automated, documented infrastructure builds

AI-powered

Unleash the power of AI

We offer the possibility of using AI throughout this work: ready-to-use AI tools, or a customised version built for your organisation that can run inside your own infrastructure. In data centre and hybrid infrastructure, AI analyses performance and capacity data to right-size the target platform and maps dependencies between virtual machines to form migration groups. In operations, it helps predict hardware faults and capacity shortfalls before they cause outages.

Starter offer

Virtualisation Exit Assessment

A fixed-scope, four-week assessment that compares your virtualisation options and gives you a costed recommendation and migration plan.

Week 1

Discover

Collection of virtualisation, licence, capacity and performance data, plus interviews with infrastructure owners.

Week 2

Compare

Alternative platforms and cloud options evaluated against your workloads, skills, costs and support needs.

Week 3

Plan

Target platform, migration groups and timeline drafted and tested with your team.

Week 4

Recommend

Recommendation, cost comparison and migration plan presented to decision-makers.

You receive

  • An inventory of virtual machines, hosts, licences and dependencies
  • A cost and risk comparison of alternative platforms
  • A recommended target platform and placement per workload
  • A migration plan with groups, timeline and effort

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

We are affected by the VMware licensing changes. How quickly can we move?

The assessment typically takes about four weeks, and smaller environments can often be migrated within a few months after that. Larger estates are usually moved in groups over a longer period, sometimes with a short licence extension to buy time.

Should we move everything to the cloud instead?

Sometimes that is the right answer, but not always. Latency, data control, production systems and cost often justify keeping some workloads on-premises, so we help you decide workload by workload.

Do you work with our existing hardware suppliers?

Yes. We can work with your current hardware and maintenance suppliers, and our recommendations are based on your needs rather than a particular vendor. Altechy coordinates the specialists from our partner network and is your single point of contact.

What happens to our backup and monitoring tools?

They are part of the plan from the start. We check that backup, monitoring and security tools support the new platform and include any changes in the migration, so nothing is left unprotected after the move.
